Officially, Ayatollah Khomeini is a title & name that would mean “Sign of God, from the city Khomein”.

Khomeini is an Iranian name, derived from the Iranian city of Khomein. The “i” at the end means that the person is from the said city. The most prominent Khomeini is Ruhollah Khomeini.

The word root is خم kham for “crooked” & “bent”.

To get the full extent of the mockery, you have to consult some old dictionaries, some of which were “published under the patronage of the honourable East-India Company” and written by the company’s “very obedient servant”, yuck. That company and its successors still rule our world, and the Khomeini pun is evidence of that.
