Pegida

The German acronym Pegida officially stands for “Patriotic Europeans Against the Islamicisation of the Occident”. It’s one of those alt-right movements to shepherd half-awake conservative sheeple into a controlled side-corral, and make them look stupid & racist at the same time. The silly name may be a pun with Hebrew בגידה bgydh begidah “betrayal”. It’s derived from the root √bgd, which means “cloak” / “dress up” / “betray” / “deceive”. Basically, it points to the whole movement being a sham, like all such controlled opposition movements.
