Colluthus: Rape of Helen

Introduction

The short snippet that I have decrypted narrates the famous 3 choices of the Trojan prince Paris (also called Alexander) about how to capture Helen. They encrypt the 3 choices of the Tyrian princes about how to capture the Hellenes, i.e. the Greeks:

• Athena puns with “fierceness”: She stands for choosing plain old violence.
• Hera puns with “glory”: She stands for bedazzling the subjects with a polished appearance.
• Cypris (another name for Aphrodite) puns with “secrecy”: She stands for conquering Greece in secret, without the Greeks even knowing they’ve become a colony.

Unsurprisigly, secrecy wins hands-down. Even now, 1000s of years after the fact, the Europeans still don’t know their entire civilization was founded by Phoenician overlords from the Middle East.

(Generally, most classical authors state they’re unsure whether “Helen” was captured by seduction or violence. So in reality, the conquest of Greece probably involved a little bit of both.)
