Al-Baqara
Introduction
Al-Baqara “the cow” is the first real Sura of the Quran, and also the longest. Like most religious texts, it’s not about a single topic, but talks about a great variety of topics. First & foremost, it tells how important faith in God is, and how God mocks & punishes those who deny his existence.
This is, in fact, something that will strike many first-time reader as odd: The Sura, and the Quran in general, devote a lot of text to the so-called “deniers”, how they “deceive” God, how their “minds are sealed”, how they don’t even “know” it, how they’re “joking” whenever they say they’re believers.
The reason is, of course, pun-encryption: Just like pretty much all famous ancient texts, the Quran has been encrypted by the corrupt rulers, and secretly teaches how they defraud their subjects.
For the rich & powerful, it is indeed a positive thing when they can be “deniers” regarding their profiteering, when they can “deceive” the people, when their “minds are sealed”, when no one even “knows” it, when they can just “joke” around and say they’re humble believers.
All you need to make this straightforward encryption work are a few extra puns that change the conclusion from “this is bad” into “this is good”.
