Bible: Cain & Abel

Introduction

Cain & Abel is one of many pun-encrypted parables about direct versus disguised ruling. As with Adam & Eve, it was probably based on an earlier myth which already used storytelling puns.

• The original story likely started as a parable about the conflict of land owners & herd owners over usage of the land, because Cain & Abel pun with “possessor” & “herder”. That story arc is still present in their occupations & sacrifices.
• Cain & Abel also pun with “jealousy” & “murder”, so the ancient storytellers added those story arcs as well.
• Yahweh was perhaps added later, and provided storytelling puns with “sacrifice” & “punishment”.

The spook authors then misused the original story to tell an encrypted tale, about “veiling” versus “foolish” direct ruling, because Cain & Abel pun with that as well. In the encrypted parable, the veiled governor is successful, while the foolish governor is killed when he taxes the subject directly. This is of course internal propaganda, to justify the deception of the subjects. In reality, governors and their goons may have been killed in rare circumstances, but typically only in defense or revenge for some cruelty on their part. The subjects were poorly armed, and even resistant ones would not risk an attack on officials just because of attempted taxation. They would simply refuse to pay.

Finally, as with the encryption of Adam & Eve, the characters have split roles and also share some roles:

• qyn Cain mainly stands for qnˁ “veiling”, i.e. the solution. But in some phrases, he stands for the qny “anger” of the subjects, i.e. the problem.

• yhwh Yahweh mainly stands for the yḥbh “esteemed” overlords, i.e. the higher-up rulers. But in one phrase, he seems to stand for the yḥwbh “bound” inferiors, i.e. the subjects who kill the foolish governor who rules directly.
