Bible: Lament for Tyre
The Biblical Lament for Tyre is actually pun-encrypted, and tells how Tyre’s incredible power was hidden away, after it had become too obvious.
Introduction
The famous Lamentation for Tyre from the Biblical Book of Ezekiel tells how God destroys Tyre for wanting to be greater than his “chosen” city Jerusalem. As usual, the text is pun-encrypted. It actually tells how Tyre’s vast power was disguised and hidden away, by having the city be fake-attacked by Nebuchadnezzar II from the Neo-Babylonian empire.
In fact, Tyre has been officially besieged & conquered many times over, also before and after this specific siege. But behind the scenes, all Mesopotamian empires since Sargon appear to have been Phoenician puppet states. So it makes sense that all such attacks were fake, even if this text didn’t confirm it.
Typically, even the the official sources confirm that the dark heart of the city, the fortified rocky offshore island where all the ships & nobles were, was always left alone by the besiegers. So even if these sieges ever had any real impact at all, it would have been the Tyrian subjects on the mainland who suffered. Which was probably all right with the Tyrian overlords, because they likely despised their direct citizens just as much as despised any commoners from their countless colonies.
